A serotonin–norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor is a type of antidepressant that works by blocking the reabsorption of serotonin and norepinephrine by your body. Serotonin helps transmit messages between your neurons, so inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin makes it more plentiful within your body. Norepineprhine is another hormone that is thought to regulate your neurotransmitters. By working on both serotonin and norepinephrine pathways, SNRIs tend to produce a stronger effect than SSRIs do.
The most common SNRI is duloxetine (Cymbalta).
